I am moving to Montgomery in less than 10 days. I am attending college there on a volleyball scholarship. I was so very curious about your volunteer program that you guys have. I would love to be able to spend my free time with these beautiful animals whenever I can. I am going into the Vet field so any time that I can get just to socialize would be fantastic. You are more than welcome to email me with more information just about the program and upcoming dates.

    Thanks so much!

I am so sorry that I was unable to make it to the orientation date on September 10th. I was out of town and I did not know until I got back. Is there a day that I can come in or another orientation that is coming up? If not I am more than willing to come in and go through whatever needs to be done. I have both the Waiver and the Volunteer form. Please let me know what I can do to help :]

    Have a blessed day!

We will have another volunteer orientation at 10 a.m. Oct. 8. Let me know if that works with your schedule. Looking forward to meeting you!

Again I apologize, but the orientation on October 8th is another date that I have a volleyball event. Our season at Faulkner University is really back to back this year. I know that there are 3 girls on the team including myself that are more than excited to come and help. We are looking for both hands on time with the horses as well as community service hours. There is one weekend in October that we have off that I know the morning of the 14th that we would be able to come in! I hope that isn’t a bad time for you. We are willing to do anything that you need from cleaning, walking, caring, riding, etc. We all have a huge PASSION for the animals. I hope this helps!

    Thanks again,

    Ashley Towers

No worries, we will work something out!
The 14th is a Friday, is that what you meant? Or the 15th? Email me at Mary@dthr.org and we’ll chat.

Hi I am fairly new to the Montgomery area and I have visited your website many times. I would love to come volunteer out there with you guys. I have a passion for horses and have enjoyed spending many hours in the barn when I was in college. Any information would be great. Is the volunteer orientation just a show up and sign type of thing??

  8. Mary says:

So sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
My name is Mary, I’m the volunteer coordinator for the rescue. We’d be glad to have you. Yes, all you have to do is show up at 10 a.m. Dec. 10th. I will have a volunteer application and waiver for you to sign, or you can print them off this site and bring them with you.
Email me at mary@dthr.org if you have any questions.

  9. Sarah says:

I just wanted to let you know how sorry I am about my car trouble! I am thankful that it wasn’t any worse than it was, and am SO GRATEFUL for all the help in getting my car out. It did not in any way scare me off from working with horses and working at the rescue, and I am looking forward to seeing you all again!

    Thank you so much!!!

I would like to come out and help you out later this week, if you like. Just let me know what will work for you!

Are there programs for abandon horses who aren’t in emmient damger of starvation or death from disease? If someone has the room but not the facilities (fences, stalls, etc.) is there any assistance available to help with the expenses to allow for accomodation of horses who need a home?

  12. Allen says:

I am interested in volunteering but have little horse experience. I also have a 4 year old son who loves horses and riding. Is there anything we could do to help and also to teach him more about caring for horses?

  13. Mary says:

Sure, there’s room for all experience levels, though four is pretty young. Even if you have no horse experience, there are lots of needs at the rescue. Please email me at mary@dthr.org and I can answer any questions you have!
    Thanks for your interest!
